Colleen Abdoulah is the only female CEO to have led a top-ten cable operating company. Raised by parents who emphasized empathy and respect for all, her leadership style and personal commitment to serving others is widely known and respected and is reflected in her passionate focus on customer experience and company culture.
Colleen guided WOW! Internet, Cable and Phone for 12 years, overseeing industry-leading financial success and creating unprecedented value for employees and shareholders. During her tenure, WOW! quadrupled its customer base from 200,000+ to more than 800,000, growing revenues to more than $1.2B. Under Colleen’s leadership, WOW! earned a remarkable 19 J.D. Power and Associates awards for customer satisfaction, multiple top-provider awards from Consumer Reports, and the PC Magazine Readers’ Choice Award for top cable Internet service provider. She is equally proud of the many awards WOW! received as an employer, including recognition as a 2012 and 2013 National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For winner.
Prior to joining WOW!, Colleen spent much of her career at Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI), where she served in a number of positions including Assistant COO and Executive Vice President of Cable Operations. Her professional career spans over 30 years in the marketing/advertising and telecommunications industries.
She is Former Chair of the Board of the American Cable Association, a lobbying organization representing the interests of independent cable operators. She also served on the board of C-SPAN, and is a former Vice President of the Executive Board of Women in Cable and Telecommunications, as well as Former Chairperson for the WICT Foundation.
In the nonprofit world, Colleen is an ardent voice and advocate for those who have been marginalized. She is a former Chair of the Board for the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center, and she currently serves on the boards of The Women’s College of the University of Denver; the Women’s Forum of Colorado; and is Chair of World Pulse, a global social network dedicated to connecting, uniting and empowering women around the world. She also currently serves on the board of Rocky Mountain PBS and is an industry advisor for Avista Capital Partners in New York.
As keynote speaker at a variety of management conferences and business forums, Colleen has shared her views on the strategic importance of customer experience and company culture; development of gender-balanced management and leadership; and cultivation of authentic leadership, among other topics.
Colleen graduated from Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta and received her MBA from the University of Denver. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Leaders Advancing and Helping Communities (LAHC) Lifetime Achievement Award; the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce Top 25 Most Powerful Women Award; the American Cable Association’s PAC Individual Leadership Award; and was a Multichannel News Wonder Women honoree and an inductee to the WICT Rocky Mountain Chapter’s Walk of Fame.
